Switching an existing podcast from another hosting platform to Spreaker consists of two steps:

1 - Moving your old episodes to Spreaker by using the RSS importer. If episodes are already hosted on another podcasting platform, it is possible to move episodes via the RSS importing function. You simply need to copy and paste the RSS feed URL from your current hosting platform into the Spreaker RSS importer page.

2 - Forwarding your old RSS feed to the new Spreaker one. Once the importing is done, all of your episodes will be available to Spreaker’s community and can be distributed with the new Spreaker RSS feed. If your podcast is already available on platforms such as iTunes with your previous hosting and you don’t want to submit it again, it is possible to enable a redirection so you can keep your subscribers.

How to move your podcast from Squarespace

  • First you will need your Squarespace RSS feed. Your Squarespace page's RSS feed URL is made up of your full URL, followed by the page slug, and ending with ?format=rss.

If you use your built-in domain, it will look like this, replacing sitename.squarespace.com with your own built-in site name and pageslug with the slug for the individual page:

    http://sitename.squarespace.com/pageslug?format=rss

If you have a custom domain, it will look like this, replacing www.yourdomain.com with your own domain and pageslug with the slug for the individual page:

    http://www.yourdomain.com/pageslug?format=rss

  • Now Access your Spreaker account or create a new one

  • Head to the CMS and click on Import Episodes

  • Paste your existing RSS URL copied from Squarespace into the corresponding box and choose - or create - the podcast where your episodes will be uploaded in the next step.

  • Finally, you'll get to the RSS Importing Settings page where you can uncheck the “Import new episodes automatically” box and save.

  • Once this is done, all of your episodes will be moved on Spreaker. You can now set up a redirect from the Squarespace's feed to the new Spreaker one. Here's how to do it:

    1. In the Home menu of your Squarespace account, click Pages.

    2. Hover over your podcasting blog page title, and click the settings icon (cogwheel) next to the title to open blog page settings.

    3. Click the Feeds tab.

    4. Click Podcasting.

    5. Scroll down and click Change Feed.

    6. Click Moving from Squarespace.

    7. Enter your new Spreaker RSS feed URL in the field.

  • You can find your new Spreaker RSS feed by accessing the RSS Settings tab of your podcast, on the Content Management System (CMS): www.spreaker.com/cms/shows

  • Once the redirection will be set, click the link to your old Squarespace feed. Do you get redirected to the new one on Spreaker? If so, you're done! Just wait for about two weeks: this way you can make sure all the podcatching platforms will update the RSS Feed. Then you can also delete your account and feed on Squarespace.
