Migrating from WordPress (PowerPress plugin) to Spreaker
Migrating an existing podcast to Spreaker consists of two steps:
1 - Hosting episodes on Spreaker by using the RSS importer. If episodes are already hosted on another podcasting platform, it is possible to move episodes via the RSS importing function. You simple need to copy and paste the RSS feed URL from your current hosting platform into the Spreaker RSS importer page.
2 - Forwarding your old RSS feed to the new Spreaker one. Once the importing is done, all of your episodes will be available to Spreaker’s community and can be distributed with the new Spreaker RSS feed. If your podcast is already available on platforms such as iTunes with your previous hosting and you don’t want to submit it again, it is possible to enable a redirection so you can keep your subscribers.
Please Note: Before moving all of your content be sure you have enough space in your Spreaker account. Spreaker comes with 5 hours of free storage and if you need more room for your episodes, please consider upgrading: see the Plans Page.
1 - If you're using the Powerpress plugin, your default RSS feed will be in the following format:
2 - Once done, log into your Spreaker account or create a new one.
3 - Go to the Spreaker RSS Importer. Paste the RSS feed copied from your website into the corresponding box and choose - or create - the show where your episodes will be uploaded in step two.
Finally, you'll get in the RSS Importing customization page where you can uncheck the “Import new episodes automatically” box and save.
4 - Once all the episodes are imported on Spreaker you can enable the RSS Feed redirection. Copy your new RSS Feed from your show on Spreaker's Content Management System (CMS).
5 - Go to your website and then to the Wordpress Admin
6 - Open PowerPress > Settings
7 - Enable “Custom Podcast Channels” under the “Advanced Options” section and save.
8 - After that, a new option “Podcast Channels” will appear in the left-side menu. Open PowerPress and select the Podcast Channels option.
9 - Mouse over the podcast name: you will see the “Edit” link appear. Click on it.
10 - Now open the Apple tab.
11 - Check the “iTunes New Feed URL” option and paste the Spreaker RSS Feed URL in the field “New Feed URL”.
12 - Click “Save Changes”
From now, your WordPress Podcast RSS Feed URL will include the tag itunes:new-feed-url containing the Spreaker RSS Feed URL. This tag instructs iTunes to switch fetching new episodes from the Spreaker RSSS Feed URL.
Some podcatching platform may ignore this tag. If so, you may consider following this instruction on how to set a 301 redirect.
